Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
Details of Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
Owned and operated by the Chimpanzee Trust, the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is an orphanage for nearly fifty orphaned chimpanzees who are now cared for and studied by the island’s staff.
The sanctuary’s most popular tour is done as either a half-day or full-day tour, and introduces visitors to the work being done on the island as well as giving them access to a chimpanzee feeding that can be observed from a raised deck. Food and drink are also available on the island.
For those wanting to spend more time with the chimpanzees, overnights can be arranged.
Overnight visitors may also wish to apply for the Caregiver for a Day program, which allows them to take an active role in the preparation of meals and in assisting with other day-to-day maintenance for the island.
