Details of In Sirimon - Out Chogoria - Climbing Mount Kenya - 5 days trek
Mount Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa and great alternative for Kilimanjaro. You will trek 6 days through breathtaking landscape and on the day 4 you will reach the peak.

Day 1: Nairobi – Slopes of Mt. Kenya
Transfer to Mount Kenya, later start of the trek from Sirimon Park Gate. We shall leave Nairobi by 6am the latest and head to Nanyuki, a town at the base of Mt Kenya by 10am.We shall have an early lunch and by 11.30am we depart for the Sirimon Park Gate. Our Mountain trek starts at this point after a few formalities at the Gate with an easy trek in the afternoon to help with acclimatization.
Overnight will be at Old Mosses (3300m) in the high altitude mountain cabins. By the end of the day we shall have done 5 hours of trekking.
Day 2: Trekking Mount Kenya
In the morning after breakfast continue with Mount Kenya trek. We shall start the day at 0800hrs.
By the end of this day we shall have done 8 hours of walking. This will be a true test of patience, endurance and determination. Ascend the Sirimon Track to Likie North Valley. In this beautiful valley below are the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo , two ancient parasitic vents of the main peaks (3990m). Climb out of the North Valley and into Mackinders Valley, one of the broadest valleys in the Mountain with many giant groundsels. Camp at Shiptons Cabins of the Mackinders valley below the main peaks of Batian and Nelion (4,300m).
Day 3: Trekking Mount Kenya
Acclimatisation day. We shall spend this day acclimatizing at the base of the peaks, where we shall climb to the View Point of Oblang and Nanyuki tarn. Time permitting we shall descend a little bit further to have a glimpse of the Mountain on the other side (but from this side we shall have a excellent view of Batian, Nelion and not forgetting the Diamond collier as well as the “Amphitheatre
Day 4: Mt. Kenya Peak
Trek starts in the middle of the night. It is the day when you reach the mt. Kenya Peak in sunrise hours.
The day starts at 0200hrs. We have to start very early on this day so that we reach the peak at sunrise. It is an Alpine ascent to the highest peak, Point Lenana (4985m) en-route up the North face little used by tourists. It is 4 hours of stiff walking to the summit. This will be the most challenging bit of the Mountain Trek and will require a strong mind to reach the summit. At about 0730hrs, we shall start the descent back to the Mintos Hut where we shall have breakfast. We shall camp in the tents within this region for the night.
Day 5: Descend day
During descend, if group pace allows, also visit to Nithii waterfalls.
We shall leave for the Mt Kenya Meru Bandas and having a stop over for lunch at the Road Head. Time permitting we shall deviate a bit to the “Nithii waterfalls”. We shall later join the main route and head to the Mt Kenya Meru Bandas where we shall be accommodated for the night.
Day 6: Chogoria gate - Transfer to Nairobi
Today you trek the last part of the Mount Kenya Trek.
After breakfast we shall leave the Mt Kenya Bandas at 0900hrs. We shall trek the first 10kms out of the dense forests and the rest of 22 kms you shall cover on a basic 4x4 Land Rover out of the ParK, and this ride is a bit bumpy. On reaching Chogoria town we shall have lunch and then be transferred back to your Nairobi Hotel or Airport.
