Hell's Gate National Park - Day tour from Nairobi
Short Overview
Around 100 kilometres northwest of Nairobi, Hells Gate National Park is an ideal venue for a day trip excursion. It provides endless biodiversity and is the only one of the few places you are allowed to walk or cycle without an escort. It is a World Heritage site that enjoys global protection as one of the most unique natural sites on Earth.
We designed a perfect day-tour to explore the evocative landscape composed of cliffs, water gorged gauges, stiff rock towers, volcanoes, and plumes of geothermal steam. All these make it one of the most atmospheric parks in Africa. This scenery was used in the 1980 Hollywood film “Sheena Queen of the Jungle”. You will hit some of the trails pedalling a bike, and visit other sights in the comfort of a vehicle.

DAY 1 - NAIROBI - HELL’S GATE NATIONAL PARK - NAIROBI
Our driver will pick you up at your hotel in the morning. After a short stop at a Great rift valley viewpoint, to admire the stunning nature at its largest, they will bring you to the Hell’s Gate National Park, where an expert guide will take over your cycling expedition.
One of the most atmospheric parks in Africa is not only a breathtaking display of nature’s wit, force, and artistic talent when painting the canvas - the scenery is unparalleled and unforgettable. And home to herds of buffaloes, zebras, elands, Thomson’s gazelles, warthogs, Maasai giraffes, that you can even walk along very close. Lions, leopards, and cheetahs also live in the park but are quite difficult to spot.
The magnificent diversity and majestic beauty will blow you off your seat - stunning nature, enchanting gorges, a fairytale all around.
For the second part of your visit to Hell’s Gate, you may choose either from a walking safari or rock climbing.
Baboons can be seen on Fischer’s Tower, a 25 metres high volcanic plug, a rocky tower that offers excellent climbing opportunities. A Maasai legend tells of a disobedient Maasai girl, who did not wish to marry according to the family’s choice and was turned to stone.
There you could also see birds nesting on the gorge or on the top of the Fischer’s Tower, while many patrol the valley floor for a tasty meal.
Another remarkable sight is the Mervyn Carnelly raptors hide, one of the best places that allow visitors to view and photograph the raptors at exceptionally close range.
After a very different day, full of remarkable sighs and unusual activities, embark on a vehicle, and we’ll bring you back to your hotel in Nairobi.
