Woodland Kingfisher (Halcyon senegalensis)

The hoopoe is widespread in Europe, Asia, and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar.It's diet is mostly composed of insects, although small reptiles, frogs and plant matter such as seeds and berries are sometimes taken as well.

It has a pinkish-brown body, striking black and white wings, a long black downcurved bill, and a long pinkish-brown crest which it raises when excited. Hoopoe inhabits wide variety of habitats: grasslands, savannas, forests and wooded steppes. Female is responsible for the nest and for the eggs until the hatching.

Male feeds the female during this period.
