Sossusvlei and Deadvlei

Perhaps Namibia's best-known attraction, the towering red dunes of Sossusvlei draw tourists from around the world hoping to take in their quiet majesty. Millions of years old, these endlessly shifting giants (some of which are over 150m tall) can be taken in from the ground or climbed by those brave (and fit) enough to clamber up.

Nearby Deadvlei, a ghostly expanse of white clay dotted with the twisted skeletons of ancient camelthorn trees is a stark contrast to the vibrant red of Sossuvlei, and was the set of the thriller, The Cell.
