The Complete Southern Tanzania - 12 Day Flying Safari
Kratek pregled
The southern parks of Tanzania offer something very different to the more famous northern parks. While they may not have the majesty of the Serengeti or the notoriety of Ngorongoro, parks such as Selous and Ruaha offer a distinctly more wild, untamed experience.
Our twelve day flying safari covers three of southern Tanzania’s most exciting parks, with time in Ruaha, Selous, and Katavi.
Podrobno o The Complete Southern Tanzania - 12 Day Flying Safari
DAY 1: DAR ES SALAAM – SELOUS
You’ll begin your safari adventure with a flight from Dar Es Salaam to the Selous Game Reserve, one of Africa’s largest reserves. At twice the size of the Serengeti and three times the size of Kruger, Selous is a rambling wilderness the likes of which you’ve never seen.
You’ll arrive at your lodge in time for lunch before heading out into the park for an afternoon game drive. Sometimes called Africa’s greatest surviving wilderness, Selous is home to more than 120,000 buffalo, 40,000 hippos, 35,000 zebras, and 4,000 lions.
DAYS 2 – 4: SELOUS
You’ll have three full days to explore the wilderness of Selous. Not only can you experience a wide variety of wildlife encounters with animals such as crocodiles, leopards, hyenas, African wild dogs, kudu, and elephants doing a game drive, but you also have the option to take activities such as guided game walks and boat safaris through the park.
DAY 5: SELOUS – RUAHA
You’ll have the opportunity to take one last game drive through the rambling wilderness before making the trip to Ruaha.
A forested park with rolling hills and a hot, dry climate that means animals tend to stick close to the water sources. This makes for fantastic game viewing opportunities, and the park’s isolation means it is considerably less crowded.
DAYS 6-8: RUAHA
Ruaha’s position as a middle ground between traditional savannah and woodlands means that it provides unique game-viewing conditions.
During your two day-long explorations of the park, you’ll see everything from traditional game such as buffalo, zebra, lions, and elephants to less common sights such as the Kudu, African Wild Dog, and sable antelope.
DAY 9 – RUAHA – KATAVI
You’ll board your second flight of the trip for the trek to Katavi National Park, affording you a fantastic view of the vast African wilderness as it unfolds beneath you.
You’ll arrive at the isolated park in the afternoon in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive, with the park offering particularly dramatic numbers of hippos and buffalo.
DAYS 10-11: KATAVI NATIONAL PARK
You’ll have two days to explore this isolated, fascinating park. While its huge buffalo herds and great clumps of wallowing hippos are an obvious draw, you’ll also find animals such as lions, leopards, and elephants.
Of particular interest in the park are its more unique antelope species such as roan and sable antelopes.
DAY 12: KATAVI – DAR ES SALAAM
You’ll bring your trip to a close with a flight back to Dar Es Salaam.
