The resort is around forty minutes by car from Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar, declared a Unesco World Heritage Site, a place that is truly magical, where different cultures mix; African, Arabic and western, embellished by historical buildings such as theOld Dispensary and House of Wonders.
The historic center of Stone Town is a maze of narrow streets which, along the universally known Kenyatta Road and Gizenza Street, offer visitors market stalls, handicraft workshops and storefronts, for a pleasant shopping experience in a totally unique setting. You may even have the good fortune of finding an authentic colonial helmet, a turn of the century photographic camera, or simply a young designer producing her hand sewn creations.
The atmosphere is even more magical at sunset, when, as the call of the muezzin can be heard, preparations get under way for the fascinating evening gathering at the Forodhani Gardens, the gardens overlooking the sea built by the Sultan. Dozens of small kiosks are set up in terraces overlooking the sea, and an extraordinary show of local cuisine is staged amongst the motley crowd gathered for an evening chat, immersed in the scents and flavors of spicy Swahili cuisine.
