The De Hoop Nature Reserve is a celebration of the great outdoors, offering something for all tastes when it comes to nature.
At an area of approximately 34,000 hectares and with a marine reserve stretching out 5km into the ocean, De Hoop boasts a dizzying array of options for its visitors.
For hikers, the 55km Whale Trail is one of South Africa’s most famous walks and is serviced by comfortable accommodation along its length. For the less ambitious, the Reserve also has the shorter but no less scenic De Hoop Coastal Trail and De Hoop Klipstringer Trail.
Hikers and cyclists can hope to spot local wildlife such as mountain zebras, eland, baboons, and mongoose, and bird-watchers will be fascinated by the more than 260 species of bird that call the reserve home.
Out in the water, De Hoop’s large and clear rockpools lend themselves perfectly to snorkeling, and the offshore marine reserve is a haven for whale-watching.
