Spices Tour
Zanzibar is famed around the world for the quality of
its spices. Take a day to explore the industry that put the
island on the map as well as learn more about the island’s rich
history.
On this four hour guided tour you will explore the various spices of
Zanzibar which are used in almost every kitchen on earth, such as cin-
namon, cloves, black pepper, garlic, lemongrass, turmeric, ginger, vanil-
la, nutmeg, and more. You’ll not only learn how these spices go from the
plantations to our tables, but also about the more unorthodox uses for
these spices as home remedies
We depart from your hotel at 9am and begin with some cultural exploration
before we hit the road.
We’ll start with a visit to Kibweni Palace Muruhubi – a palace built to house the
harem of the Sultan. These two sites combine to give us a window into the
island’s former ruling class before we head out to explore the true lifeblood of
the island – its spices.
From here, we travel to the Kizimbani spice plantations where you’ll have
the opportunity to touch and taste the various spices, herbs, fruits, and
decorative flowers that the island is famous for.
On our way home, we’ll return to the Kidichi, where we’ll take
some time to explore the Kidichi Persian Baths, another
luxury constructed by the former Sultans for their com-
fort.
