Uganda GorillaTrekking

Podroben opis

Podrobno o Uganda GorillaTrekking

Where? Bwindi Impenetrable Forest national park and Mgahinga Gorilla national park are the two places to see the mountain gorillas in Uganda. All together 18 gorilla families are living there and there are different starting points for trekking them. In Bwindi four: Ruhija, Buhoma, Nkuringo, and Rushaga trek. In Mgahinga park in the Virungas, you search for one group living there, the Nyakagezi. When? Gorilla trekking is a year-out activity, but the best times are in the dry season, from mid-December to early February and June to September. The terrain is easier to conquer, less muddy and slippery. But, the dry season doesn't mean any rain at all, showers are common. In Bwindi, there's a year-round temperature around 23°C in the day, 11°C at night. What? One group of eight members treks in the forest from one hour to as long as half a day - depending on where the gorilla family, that will receive your visit, currently stays. You will be respectfully observing the family's way of living for an hour and then head back. How? A reasonably good level of fitness is required, as well as durable waterproof walking shoes and clothes. A valid permit to visit is required, and since only eight people are visiting one family in a day, they tend to be sold out. A gorilla specialist will gather you in the base camp early in the morning, deliver a lesson on gorilla etiquette, and then lead your way in the search for the gorillas.

Kratek pregled

Meeting the magnificent and almost mythical endangered mountain gorillas, with only around a thousand living members, is many men's dream.

They live in only two (adjacent) places in the whole world: Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable national park and in the Virungas, a chain of volcanoes extending over 280 kilometers across Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In Uganda, gorilla treks were suspended for a while due to SARS-CoV2 infection danger. But successful measures taken have lessened the threat, so Bwindi Impenetrable national park and the Mgahinga gorilla park have been reopened. Covid restrictions of social distance and other guidelines, like wearing face masks, still apply.
