Created in 1898 to protect the flora and fauna of the Lowveld, Kruger National Park is home to an imposing variety of plants and animals including more than 2,000 varieties of plants, 118 reptiles, 517 birds, and almost 150 species of mammal.
The Big Five - lions, leopards, buffalo, elephants, and rhinos - remain the most popular attraction, but visitors to the park can expect to see other popular animals such as giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, cheetah, hyenas, antelopes, hippos, and more in abundance as well.
More unique residents include the endangered African wild dog, as well as roan and sable antelopes.
While guided game drives remain a popular way to take in the park, the option to utilize the park's well maintained network of self-drive roads makes it a place where the budding explorer can indulge their curiosity.
