Kort overzicht

The park is covering around 188 square kilometres on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. In this park lie the shimmering waters of Lake Nakuru (its size varying from 5 to 30 square kilometres) which is packed with pink flamingoes. But although they are strikingly noticeable, they are far from the only ones - this national park is an ornithological paradise with over 450 bird species!

Lake Nakuru National Park is also the first rhino sanctuary in Kenya, and it was established right after the rhinos became an endangered species. The park hosts a large population of them.

Another 56 recorded species of mammals, many amphibians, reptiles, countless insect species add to the biodiversity of the park and make it an excellent place to visit.

DAY 1 - NAIROBI - LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK - NAIROBI

Our driver will pick you up at your hotel in Nairobi in the morning. After some 150 kilometres you will reach the floor of the Great Rift valley, home to a national park around Lake Nakuru. The lake itself is home to sometimes over a million and a half, even two million fuchsia pink flamingoes, the greater and the lesser. A view of the pink mass from afar is truly unparalleled - there’s nothing alike on the globe.

The ecosystem provides for about 56 different species of mammals, including the white rhino and buffaloes, and a variety of terrestrial birds numbering nearly 450 species.

Wildlife such as the rock hyrax, Colobus monkey, hippo, leopard, lion, black and white rhino, waterbuck, striped hyena, the golden cat, Thomson’s and grant gazelle, Rothschild’s giraffe live here. One of the unique facts about Lake Nakuru National Park is, that it is compact and has a high game density. Therefore it is simple to encounter wildlife during the safari trail; you are very likely to see a leopard, and lions are easy to come across.

The park is surrounded by wooden and bushy grasslands, a splendor of a grey-green forest of Euphorbia Candelabrum, and offers sanctuary to some of the world's most endangered creatures, like the white and the black rhino. Kenya’s first rhino sanctuary is established in this park since the rhino became an endangered species. The park hosts a large population of them.

All of this and a delicious picnic lunch somewhere in-between - a fantastic day trip!

After admiring all the beauties and creating lifetime memories, we’ll bring you back to your hotel in Nairobi.
