Lake Naivasha and Hell's Gate National Park - One day tour from Nairobi

Kort overzicht

Although Nairobi, so dynamic, vibrant, and full of striking images, tends to be hard to be left, opt for a day full of adventures in beautiful nature! Visit Lake Naivasha and Hell’s Gate National Park in one day, packed with images.

The evocative landscape of Hell’s Gate National Park is composed of cliffs, water-gorged gauges, stiff rock towers, volcanoes, and plumes of geothermal steam. All these make it one of the most atmospheric parks in Africa. This scenery was also used in the 1980 Hollywood film “Sheena, Queen of the Jungle”.

Lake Naivasha is a vast freshwater lake at the highest elevation of the Kenyan Rift valley at 1884 metres. With its 139 square kilometres of fresh water and surrounding 64 square kilometres of a swamp, it is home to many animal species; a sizable population of hippos resides there, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and, of course, fish, which have been almost totally displaced by the invasive newcomer, the common carp. Many terrestrial animals feed and drink on it, and the backdrop scenery consists mainly of plantations of blooming flowers, the most important agricultural crop in the vicinity of the lake.

DAY 1 - NAIROBI - HELL’S GATE NATIONAL PARK - LAKE NAIVASHA - NAIROBI

Our driver will pick you up at your hotel in the morning. After a short stop at a Great rift valley viewpoint, to admire the stunning nature at its largest, they will bring you to the Hells Gate National Park, where an expert guide will take over your cycling expedition. Unique in the admirable biodiversity Hells Gate NP is a world Heritage site that enjoys global protection as one of the most unique natural sites on Earth. It will blow you off your seat - stunning nature, enchanting gorges, a fairytale all around.

On the way back to the park’s gate you will stop for a visit at a Masai village. A genuine experience with the locals! Return the bikes and wave your expert guide goodby, embark on a vehicle, and head for a delicious fish lunch at lake Naivasha.

After a great fish lunch in a selected lodge, you’ll embark on a boat for a ride to observe hippos and birds on your way to the Crescent Island Conservatory to see zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, and monkeys in their natural environment. A lake view is quite unparallel - besides all the inhabitants, you will see shores of blooming flowers and the peaks of the Great rift.

High above there is the Njorowa Gorge, which was once the lake's outlet - an ever-standing reminder of nature’s changes - especially those, caused by humans. The blooming backdrop has a downside - uncontrolled irrigation causes devastating changes to the lake’s ecosystem. Recent efforts to regulate farming are showing some results, so the lake starts to gain its primal beauty.

After the boat ride, we’ll bring you back to your hotel in Nairobi.
