Much of the mortar we used to piece it all together is a kind of limestone (or ‘chokaa’ in Kiswahili), a local material, and a more eco-friendly option than cement.

Everything has been made by hand on site using our own team; we have employed, and trained, local workmen and craftsmen, thus investing in the local community and the local economy.

As much as possible, we also source our food locally, and we grow a range of food on site – as well as rearing chickens, goats, ducks and turkeys.
At Seasons we want to provide a place for you to stay that has a low carbon footprint, while at the same time ensuring quality of service and excellent accommodation – responsible tourism.

Rooms

We have two types of rooms at Seasons lodge. Both boast breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, and in all you can take a shower or have a bath while enjoying the view!

We have 7 individual cottages and 3 second floor rooms in the main block. The bathrooms have hot water provided by a solar water heating system; each room has a claw foot cast iron bathtub, and the cottages have ‘his and her’ wash hand basins.

The rooms are designed to harness the Indian ocean trade winds, so as we can keep you cool without using energy sapping air conditioning units.

They are very open with folding louvered doors and windows to maximise the breeze that blows in off the ocean. All rooms also have multi-speed fans above the beds.

The cottages have their own walled tropical gardens, accessed through an antique Zanzibar door set within a white coral stone wall.

At the front are large balconies with comfy coconut wood furniture and steps down to your own beach area.

Short Overview

Seasons lodge is a family built, and family run, hotel, opened in 2011 by the Clarkes, an Irish-Ugandan family, based in Zanzibar, Uganda and Ireland.
It is situated in Pongwe on the east coast of Zanzibar. It is just under one hour’s drive from the airport and from Stonetown – on a tarmac road.
