Southern Big Five Safari - Mikumi & Selous

Kort overzicht

If you think you've seen it all after having been on safari in the Serengeti and Ngorogonro, you couldn't be more wrong.

Our Southern Big Five Safari presents these beautiful animals against a unique and isolated backdrop, far away from the crowds and creature comforts of the more popular Northern Circuit.

You'll spend a day on the open floodplain of Mikumi in search of lions, eland, and cheetahs, transfer for a quaint farmstay in Morogoro, and then finish your trip with four game drives (including two full day game drives) in the massive Selous Reserve - Africa's largest game reserve.

Details van Southern Big Five Safari - Mikumi & Selous

DAY 1 - DAR ES SALAAM - MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, you'll make the drive to the Mikumi National Park. Sometimes called the most accessible corner of Selous and sometimes compared favourably to the open plains of the Serengeti, Mikumi is Tanzania's fourth largest national park and a game-viewer's dream.

The Mkata Floodplain is the park's most dominant feature, and it is here that antelope fans will have their best chance to see the powerful Eland in large numbers. Bird watchers will also find a huge variety of feathered favourites within the park, with more than 400 bird species residing within the park's borders.

DAY 2 - MIKUMI - MOROGORO

After a morning game drive across the plains of Mikumi, you'll press on to the idyllic farming region of Morogoro. Here, you'll experience a little serenity as you enjoy the open air and quiet of a working farm.

Wander the grounds, indulge in some bird-watching (the grounds abound with more than 200 species of bird), or just relax ahead of your Selous adventure.

DAY 3 - MOROGORO - SELOUS

You’ll continue your safari adventure with a morning drive to the Selous Game Reserve, one of Africa’s largest reserves. At twice the size of the Serengeti and three times the size of Kruger, Selous is a rambling wilderness the likes of which you’ve never seen.

You’ll arrive at your lodge in time for lunch before heading out into the park for an afternoon game drive. Sometimes called Africa’s greatest surviving wilderness, Selous is home to more than 120,000 buffalo, 40,000 hippos, 35,000 zebras, and 4,000 lions.

DAY 4 - 5 - SELOUS RESERVE

You’ll have two full days to explore the wilderness of Selous. Not only can you experience a wide variety of wildlife encounters with animals such as crocodiles, leopards, hyenas, African wild dogs, kudu, and elephants doing a game drive, but you also have the option to take activities such as guided game walks and boat safaris through the park.

DAY 6 - SELOUS - DAR ES SALAAM

After breakfast, you'll enjoy a morning game drive through Selous on your way to Dar Es Salaam. You'll have a picnic lunch on hand for the lengthy drive.
