We had an absolutely incredible 12 day private family safari in Kenya and Tanzania. We saw so much more than we could possibly have dreamed of. Our kids were thrilled and so were we.

Our guides in both countries were fantastic - we spent the most time in Tanzania and Moody was amazing. Very careful driver, very caring, very knowledgable, very generous. He always listened to us, what was important to us, and made it happen. Andrew in Kenya was also great - we just didn't spend as long with him. Also very very hard working.

Moody is somehow the "animal whisperer". We were about to give up waiting for a Mara river great migration crossing (we'd waited 2 hours), but Moody said.. just hold on 5 more minutes... and they crossed! Later on we watched a cheetah hunting.. slowly.. slowly.. waiting for him to go after the gazelle.. again we were about to give up, Moody encouraged us to wait.. and he was right, and we got to see a cheetah run at full speed (the gazelle lived to see another day).

The lodges were very good, we stayed in a lot of camp lodges, but always with clean ensuites.

The safari vehicle was very comfortable and cleaned nightly. We were promised "full day game drives" and did they ever deliver! We were often out from 7am to 6pm. At one of the lodges, a guest with another company was shocked by our late arrival and asked "You're only getting back now from your game drive? Who is your guide? What company? That's amazing!"

The office staff (Karen and Jake in US) were very organized and responsive. Everything was laid out clearly and they delivered exactly what was promised.

We feel we lucked out with Shadows of Africa and in particular with Moody. It was a trip we will never ever forget.

THANK YOU to the entire team. You guys rock.

We did an almost 4 weeks trip as a family, starting in Zanzibar, doing a safari through Tanzania, heading on to Rwanda and finally visiting the mountain gorillas in Uganda.

What can I say? It was FANTASTIC! We could not have been happier and I cannot praise Shadows of Africa enough. I had reached out to a number of agencies for our pretty individualized trip and was not impressed by most. Shadows of Africa was so different: they got instantly in touch with us and made all our wishes come true. I felt in good and reliable hands from the 1st second. A big shout out to Karen Maki, our Shadows of Africa contact person. She was so helpful and responsive!

The experience in Africa was really mind blowing. Our driver in Tanzania, Hezron, is a jewel. He is incredibly knowledgeable and a great person to be with. We always felt safe and in the very best hands with him.

And everyone else who took care of us (Arani, our driver around Kilimanjaro, Ziwa who chauffeured us in Rwanda and Uganda and Amiri, our guide at the Shira Plateau) was simply great. They are outstanding at their jobs and so friendly and professional.

We liked all the lodges very much too! This was certainly not our last trip to East Africa. Whatever our next destination there will be, we will travel with Shadows of Africa!

Two of my travel mates/family members have written excellent reviews from our adventure. They are much more talented at writing than I am. Search their reviews: Z6041SWmaries and hfpsychologist.

My summary is... WOW! I knew this trip was going to be amazing but it far exceeded my expectations. My advice is, don't hesitate, book it. Life is short. So many memorable moments, fantastic pictures of majestic animals standing right next to our jeep, and no one should go thru life without ever using the "bush toilet". Seriously, I never once felt unsafe. The animals seemed to prefer walking close to the jeep giving you the best possible photograph. Every day was a new adventure.

If you read the other reviews I mentioned, I was the one that lost the purse containing my passport. Our fabulous guide, Bryson, saved our trip. He insisted on checking the other vehicle we were in for the hot air balloon ride. He found my purse that slid between the seat. I'm forever grateful for his care and concern. Bryson quickly became family to all of us. His knowledge of the Serengeti and the animals amazed us daily. We learned so much about the people of Tanzania and their culture. We laughed a lot, shared stories about our families, and always felt safe and cared for. We all treasured our time with Bryson and are grateful for gaining a new friend.

Marion at Shadows of Africa worked diligently to plan our perfect trip. We made many changes and request and she always figured out a way to fulfill our requests. We appreciated all her hard work.

The food was great and always plenty of choices. We had a hot lunch in the bush every day on safari. Shadows of Africa are planet friendly and did not use disposable plates, boxes, or plastic ware. We always ate on plates with silverware and real cups - no waste. I truly appreciate their effort for our planet. We choose the middle of the road accommodations and they were always comfortable. I slept like a baby every night.

The only part I found challenging (to no one's fault) was the extremely bumpy and dusty roads. I guess you could say it added to the authenticity of being on safari.

A+ tour company, and A+++ safari guide - Bryson. Thank you for the most amazing trip of a lifetime.
