Details of Eight Day Simien Mountains Trekking Adventure
DAY ONE: ADDIS ABABA - GONDAR
You'll board your scheduled flight from the Ethiopa's capital, Addis Ababa to Gondar.
Dependent on when you arrive, you'll have somefree-time before lunch and an afternoon tour to the 'Camelot of Africa'.
Where most of Ethiopia's most famous landmarks have close Christian ties, Gondar finds its roots in Ethiopia's early Jewish population.
Fasil Ghebbi, the Royal Enclosure, is the most impressive site in Gondar, but you'll also pay a visit to other local landmarks such as the Bath of King Fasildas and the breathtaking Debre Berhan Selassie Church.
In the evening, you'll retire to your hotel to get some rest.
DAY TWO: GONDAR - SIMIEN MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
With a picnic lunch packed, you'll set off for Simien Mountains National Park to meet with your guide for the adventure to come.
You'll travel by car for much of today, heading deeper into the park before stopping for an afternoon hike to spot Gelada Baboons in their natural habitat.
Tonight, you'll set up camp at Sankaber Camp.
DAY THREE: SIMIEN MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
You'll set out bright and early today, making your way overland towards Geech Camp.
Your day of hiking will take you through some absolutely mind-boggling landscapes as you pass by Walia ibex, klipspringers, giant Lobelia plants, and a startling variety of bird life. You'll also pass local villages along the way before setting up camp for the evening.
DAY FOUR: SIMIEN MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
It's another full day of trekking today, as you'll take a picnic lunch and venture deeper into the park.
It's likely to be quite chilly when you start your day, but the crisp mountain air and the towering pillars are sure to invigorate you as you explore one of Ethiopia's most stunning wilderness areas.
You'll trek up Imet Gogo today, one of the highest points in the Simien Mountains. From here, you'll have a spectacular view of the surrounding landscape.
Wildlife you can hope to spot today include the Walia ibex, Lanner falcon, Simien wolf, Gelada Baboons, and more.
You'll again overnight at Geech Camp.
DAY FIVE: SIMIEN MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
You'll take another picnic lunch with you today as you venture out for a full day of hiking.
Your travels today will take you through the towering heath forests, across broad fields, and through mountain valleys. Stopping along the way to catch your breath and enjoy your picnic lunch, you'll hike as high as 4,000m today before overnighting at 3,600m at Chenek Camp.
DAY SIX: SIMIEN MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
It's a big day today, as you'll be hiking Ethiopia's highest peak: Ras Dashen!
With a peak elevation of 4,543m, Ras Dashen towers over all else in the Simien Mountains and will doubtless be a highlight of your time in Ethiopia.
Along the way, you'll again have the opportunity to spot all manner of wildlife.
You'll overnight at Ambiko.
DAY SEVEN: SIMIEN MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
You'll make your way down to 2,750m today as you descend back towards civilization.
You'll have lunch today in the local village of Chirolaba before hiking to Buahit Pass en route to Chenek Camp.
DAY EIGHT: SIMIEN MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK - ADDIS ABABA
Your adventure ends today, as you'll board a flight back to Addis Ababa for your onward travel.
