When planning a trip to the Maldives, it can be easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer variety of options at your disposal.
How do you decide which resort is for you?
We sent Chris from our Australian office to do the 'hard work' for you, and he's visited four of the Maldives' most popular resorts to help you decide which is right for your Maldives vacation.
We've previously talked about the Conrad Maldives dining experience, and now we're addressing the style, luxury, and youthful energy of W Maldives.
Holiday at W Maldives
W Maldives is one of The Maldives' few 'adults only' resorts, meaning it does not allow children under the age of thirteen on the island.
This makes it the perfect place for honeymooners to escape and enjoy maximum privacy, and it also emphasizes the resort's more youthful appeal.
With trendy on site restaurants, a (literally) underground night club, and a focus on style and music - it's definitely a place for a younger couple or an older couple looking to recapture a little of the wildness of youth.
Eat
W Maldives is home to three restaurants offering very different experiences.
Kitchen is the restaurant guests will become most familiar with, as it serves three meals a day and is the only restaurant for breakfast and lunch.
Serving up a variety of dishes from around the world, it's especially popular for its sizable breakfast buffet complete with champagne and Bloody Mary station!
FISH serves up just what you'd imagine - freshly caught fish and shellfish prepared in a variety of ways. With an over water location and trendy bistro style, it was definitely my favourite restaurant on the island.
Fire offers up delicious BBQ cuisine, and the weekly beachside barbecue is a real treat. Whether you want your meat carved fresh off the bone or want to pick and mix meats and fish from the Mongolian BBQ station - this one is definitely for the carnivore in you.
Enjoy
W Maldives is perhaps most famous for having one of the best house reefs in the Maldives, and the resort offers a number of unique options for those wishing to explore the colourful world beneath the waves.
From Down Under dive centre and the Wave Water Sports Centre, you can arrange everything from day trips to afternoon activities including wakeboarding, scuba diving, jet ski rental, fishing, and the very popular UV night snorkeling.
Not feeling like an adventure? You can hang out in WET, the resort's pool complete with swim-up bar.
Relax
When you're done exploring the ocean and eating your fill, W Maldives is served by the gorgeously appointed AWAY Spa.
Featuring private over-water treatment rooms complete with bath tubs and a huge variety of treatments and massages, it's a great place for a little R&R after a big night.
Party
Feeling a little wild? W Maldives has you covered on the party front too.
SIP Bar is a great place to meet for sunset cocktails before dinner at the nearby FISH Restaurant, while both Kitchen and Wet also have a healthy selection of beers, wines, cocktails, and mocktails.
One of the major points of difference on the island is definitely 15 Below, W Maldives' on-site night club. With an international DJ, a huge selection of vodkas and cocktails, and a great vibe - it's a fun place to dance the night away before retiring to your rooms.
Stay
You'd be surprised how much time people spend in their villas at Maldives resorts, but once you've seen the rooms - you'll understand why.
W Maldives' Spectacular Ocean Oasis and Wonderful Beach Oasis rooms all boast private plunge pools and beach access, stylish decor, built-in surround sound systems so you can pump your favourite tunes, and a really fun vibe.
While the over-water Spectacular Ocean Oasis rooms obviously offer spectacular views and immediate access to the house reef, those in the Wonderful Beach Oasis don't miss out - with private beach access and comfortable terraces to take in the view.
A stay at W Maldives is a wonderful romantic escape. Whether you're young and head over heels in love, or wanting a vacation that takes you back to the days of heady youthful romance - W Maldives is a perfect fit.
